Who this policy covers

This Privacy Policy explains how Christo de Lange ("I", "me") collects, uses, stores and protects personal information submitted through this website (c-delange.co.za). Christo de Lange is the responsible party for this processing under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA), and is the Information Officer for this site by default, being a sole individual rather than a registered organisation.

For any privacy query, request, or complaint, contact me directly at christod@c-delange.co.za.

What information is collected

The contact form on this site collects:

  • Name and email address (required, so I can identify and reply to you)
  • Message (required, so I know why you're getting in touch)
  • Company and contact number (optional, if you choose to provide them)
  • Your IP address, collected automatically by the form-processing service described below

No account is created and nothing is sold to anyone. If you allow analytics cookies, information about how you use the site is also collected. See Cookies and analytics below for exactly what that covers and how to refuse or withdraw it.

Why it's collected, and on what basis

This site serves two purposes, and the reason I process your information depends on which one you're using the form for:

  • Career enquiries: if you're contacting me about a role, opportunity, or professional introduction, I process your details because you've voluntarily supplied them for that purpose, which is a legitimate interest of mine as a job seeker in responding to you.
  • Website-build enquiries: if you use the form to ask about a site like this one for yourself or your business, your details are also shared with the independent web design business that built this site, so they can respond to you directly. That sharing happens on the same legitimate-interest basis, and is disclosed to you at the point of submission, immediately above the form. If you would like that business named before you send anything, ask using the email address above and you will be told.

Who receives your information

Submitting the form does not create a database entry on this site. There is no backend and no stored copy here. Instead, your submission is sent to the following recipients:

  • Web3Forms — a third-party form-to-email relay that delivers your message as an email. Web3Forms' infrastructure is hosted in the United States (AWS), and it retains a copy of each submission for a limited period (around 30 days on the plan this site uses) before automatic deletion.
  • CleanTalk and Akismet — spam-detection services used by Web3Forms, which may receive your IP address and email address to help filter automated spam.
  • My email provider — where the resulting message is delivered and stored, at the inbox associated with this site.
  • The independent web design business that built this site — only where your message is a website-build enquiry, as described above, and it will be named on request.
  • Google and Microsoft — only if you allow analytics cookies, as set out under Cookies and analytics below.

International transfer of your information

Because Web3Forms' servers are located in the United States, submitting the form involves transferring your personal information outside South Africa. South Africa has not issued a formal adequacy finding in respect of the United States under POPIA. By submitting the form, you are providing your information for this specific, disclosed purpose, and this notice serves as the disclosure POPIA requires before that transfer takes place. If you would prefer not to have your information processed this way, please contact me directly at the email address above instead of using the form.

The same applies to the analytics tools described below, which are operated by Google and Microsoft and process information outside South Africa. Those only ever run if you have allowed them, and you can withdraw that permission at any time.

How long your information is kept

I keep contact-form emails only for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to you and, where relevant, to maintain a record of an ongoing conversation, generally no longer than 12 months from your last message. Web3Forms separately deletes its own copy of your submission after its own retention period (see above), regardless of what I do with the resulting email.

How your information is protected

This site is served over HTTPS, the contact form includes a hidden spam trap to reduce automated abuse, and access to the destination mailbox is restricted and password-protected. Reasonable, proportionate security measures are applied given the low sensitivity and small volume of information this site actually handles.

Your rights

Under POPIA, you have the right to:

  • Ask whether I hold personal information about you, and request a copy of it
  • Ask me to correct, update, or delete information that is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, or collected unlawfully
  • Object to my processing of your information
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa, at inforegulator.org.za, if you believe your information has been mishandled

To exercise any of these rights, email christod@c-delange.co.za. I’ll respond within a reasonable time.

Cookies and analytics

Strictly necessary cookies keep the site working and the contact form functioning. These carry no consent requirement and cannot be switched off.

Beyond those, this site can use analytics tools that help show how the site is found and used. None of them load until you choose to allow them. When you first arrive you are asked, and refusing is a single click, exactly as easy as accepting. Nothing analytics related runs before that choice, and no boxes are ticked for you.

  • Google Analytics, delivered through Google Tag Manager. It records pages viewed, roughly where in the world a visit came from, and which link or search brought you here. Google processes this outside South Africa, including in the United States.
  • Microsoft Clarity. It measures how people move through the page and records a replay of the visit, including mouse movement, scrolling and clicks. Clarity masks text typed into form fields by default. Microsoft processes this outside South Africa.

You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the button below. Withdrawing takes effect immediately, and the analytics cookies already set are cleared. Because these tools transfer information outside South Africa, the section on international transfers above applies to them too.

Children's information

This site is not directed at children, and personal information is not knowingly collected from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes to the site or to legal requirements. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
